Srinagar, Apr 18 (KNO): Athwas Group of Humanity has set up a camp in the Gandbal area of Srinagar, where they are distributing food items and water to rescuers and other people who have come from distant places to assist in the ongoing operations. Speaking with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Rouf Elahi, Chairperson of Athwas Group of Humanity, said that immediately after the tragic incident, their NGO established a camp to provide food items to those in need. He highlighted the importance of maintaining humanity by supporting and aiding those involved in rescue efforts and those affected by the tragedy. Elahi said the camp will continue as long as the rescue operation continues in the area. Sheikh Firdous, Chairman of the Rahmatan Lil Alameen Foundation, has also been actively participating in the camp's activities and contributing to the rescue operation for the past three days. Expressing sorrow over the loss of lives, particularly children, Firdous described the incident as a black day for Kashmir. There is widespread grief and the need of the hour is to stand in solidarity with the affected families, he said. Firdous said the government must expedite the construction of a bridge in the area to prevent similar incidents in the future. He praised the helpful nature of Kashmiris and expressed confidence that they will continue to extend support in times of need. “I hope people will come forward and stand by the families who lost their loved ones to help them come out of difficult times,” he said. Sheikh also urged experts to assist in the efforts to retrieve the bodies of the missing persons—(KNO)
